Driving after drinking isn't acceptable. It can lead to accidents that have horrible consequences. When a person decides to get behind the wheel of a passenger vehicle, the accident can cause serious injury or death. Those possibilities are multiplied when the person who has been drinking gets behind the wheel of a semi-truck. The decision one man allegedly made to get behind the wheel of a semi-truck after drinking has left four children without their father.
The drunk driving accident occurred when the father, who was driving an SUV, was turning at a traffic light that was green. As the SUV turned, the semi-truck driver allegedly came barreling through the intersection, running a red light. The SUV ran into the semi-truck in the intersection. People who witnessed the accident confirmed to police that the SUV did have the right of way at the time of the accident.
The semi-truck driver is facing an intoxication manslaughter charge for the accident. He doesn't have any previous alcohol-related charges, but he did have a criminal record. Criminal mischief and possession of marijuana were two of his previous charges.
This drunk driving accident ripped a father away from his children. Now, they have to learn to live without him. They might also be dealing with the financial impact of his death.
Anyone who has lost a loved one in a drunk driving accident might have the right to seek compensation for that loss from the drunk driver. While being compensated for the loss won't bring the person back, it might help to lessen the blow that the death had on the finances of the family.
