Accident between car and truck injures two drivers

A busy Texas street was closed by an accident between a heavy truck and car a little after 10 a.m. on Jan. 13. The car accident occurred on FM 1960 in Atascocita in northeast Harris County. According to witnesses, the truck was attempting to change lanes when it struck a maroon Mercury sedan. The truck then veered off the roadway and overturned into a ditch.

The heavy truck's driver suffered injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Mercury, a retired Houston police officer, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was then airlifted to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both directions of FM 1960 were closed near Timber Forest Drive as a result of the incident.

Drivers in large trucks are encouraged to use extra caution when changing lanes because they have significant blind spots which makes it difficult to see smaller cars. In addition, motorists should be aware of truck blind spots and endeavor to stay in areas where they are more likely to be seen. If the truck's driver is found to be at fault in this accident, the injured motorist may opt to file a lawsuit to gain compensation.

A Texas personal injury attorney may review police accident reports to determine whether an injured person might be eligible for compensation. If both drivers are found to share the blame for an accident, an injured person may be able to recover partial compensation as long as the percentage of blame does not exceed 51 percent. If negotiations with the insurance company fail to secure fair compensation, a case may be brought to trial in civil court.
