Speed and alcohol possible factors in teen's death

The Harris County Sheriff's Office reported that a teen lost his life, and the driver suffered critical injuries after speeding and alcohol possibly caused the deadly accident on Sept. 15. The two occupants had been watching a televised boxing match before the fatal accident. The driver may have been speeding as he traveled down the street in his Honda Civic when he hit a curb and drove into a tree in the front yard of a residence. Neither person was restrained by a seatbelt when the crash happened. The driver was thrown from the car and transported to a medical facility in critical condition.

The passenger had died by the time authorities arrived. They gave his age as 18 or 19 and believed that alcohol contributed to the accident. The driver could be charged in his death as authorities continue to investigate.

Residents in the area report that drivers regularly speed through the neighborhood and indicated that other fatalities had occurred there. The speed limit is 30 mph and the city added lights and a turn light, but fatalities still occur. One of the biggest concerns for residents is the school in the area. The speed limit drops to 20 mph during school hours. Speeders don't realize that children live throughout the neighborhood, which is dangerous for everyone.

When someone loses their life in a car accident due to the negligence of another person, family members could want to hold the responsible party accountable. A personal injury attorney might be able to help clients seek financial compensation.
