Drunk driving suspected in fatal accident

Texas residents know the dangers of being on the road. Even in perfect driving conditions, accidents can happen between two cars being driven by responsible drivers. That is why drunk driving is especially dangerous. A driver with slowed reaction times and other physical limitations caused by drugs or alcohol can easily cause a drunk driving accident. Drunk driving may have been responsible for a man's death in a recent accident in Brownsville.

The accident took place at around 9:17 p.m. on Highway 48. An 18-year-old man had stopped on the side of the road in order to fix a flat tire. As he was in the process of retrieving his spare tire from his truck, a 2003 Buick Rendezvous struck and killed him.

Police took the female driver of the Buick into custody, bringing her to a Cameron County jail. The woman remains in jail and is charged with intoxication manslaughter. The Texas Department of Public Safety hasn't yet released information on why the woman was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Even though authorities have yet to disclose this information, it seems as though they believed she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The family of the young victim in this story should know that they have the legal right to seek compensation for their loss. This compensation can include any medical expenses that resulted from the accident and the damage caused due to wrongful death. In cases such as this one, it can be difficult to know exactly how to proceed. An attorney may be able to assist the family in determining what a reasonable amount for a settlement or lawsuit is.
