Houston drunk driving accident kills pedestrian

Driving while intoxicated is a serious crime that can have a permanent and devastating impact on any involved victims. In some cases, a drunk driver causes the death of another motorist or a pedestrian. Anyone who has lost a loved one to a car accident caused by a drunk driver should be aware of all the potential legal options. The family of one man killed by a drunk driver in Houston knows this all too well.

A man was struck at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Jan. 20 while attempting to cross the street in the 1500 block of Blalock Road in Houston. There was no crosswalk in the area where the man tried to cross, and a man driving a BMW is said to have hit him. After being transported to Memorial City Hospital, the pedestrian was pronounced dead. Police arrested the 38-year-old driver for driving while intoxicated, but no other charges are pending at this time.

While working at the scene of the crash, a Houston police officer sustained non-life threatening injuries when a black Ford Taurus struck the passenger side of the patrol car the officer was sitting in. Police ticketed the driver who struck the patrol car, but no signs of intoxication were noted.

As this tragic series of events illustrates, drunk driving accidents can cause injury and death. Family members of those killed by drunk drivers should know that legal recourse is available through a wrongful death lawsuit. In many cases, survivors are entitled to compensation for pain and suffering. No amount of money can bring back a loved one, but receiving compensation to cover funeral costs and loss of future income can help families focus on healing from a devastating loss.
