Texas man dies after his motorcycle collides with 18-wheeler

A car accident investigation by police is often key to determining who is at fault and responsible for any injuries. Victims of an auto accident may be able to seek compensation if it can be shown in civil court that the driver was negligent in his or her actions.

Readers in Houston may have heard about a collision involving a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler tanker truck that resulted in a fatality on Nov. 14. According to police, the truck was travelling southbound on Tidal Road near the Lubrizol Corporation chemical plan in Harris County when a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction crashed into the truck. The tractor-trailer was apparently turning into the chemical plant at the time of the accident.

The motorcycle's driver reportedly went under the tanker truck and came to rest in the driveway of the plant. Responders arrived at the crash scene around 6:10 a.m., and the motorcyclist was taken away by LifeFlight helicopter. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead after his arrival at the hospital.

Accidents involving motorcycles often end in more serious injuries than those involving full-size cars, as riders are offered little protection from the impact of the crash. Although it is not yet clear who was determined to be at fault for this accident, the family of the deceased cyclist is no doubt awaiting answers. They would do well to understand their rights under Texas civil law.
