Drunk driving can lead to deadly results. But even when it doesn't, it can lead to property damage. The following story may be of interest to Houston readers who are victims of a drunk driving accident and have suffered damage and financial loss when a drunk driver has plowed into their property.
An accident caused by an alleged drunk driver in Corpus Christi resulted in damage to two other vehicles and ended with the driver's vehicle in someone's backyard. The good news is that no one in the accident was seriously injured.
The 50-year-old man reportedly drove through a stoplight in the early morning of Oct. 12 at the intersection of Staples Street and McArdle Road. Police said when the man ran the light he struck two other vehicles. He continued off the road and ended up driving through a fence before stopping in the backyard of a home by the intersection.
After hearing the crash, the homeowner went outside to see what had happened. She reported that the driver was bleeding and that she saw him pouring out a beer. She also said that the man was slurring his words and claimed that the beer belonged to someone else. The man told police that he was driving home from work, but police arrested him for DWI and tampering with evidence.
The homeowner and the owners of the damaged vehicles may have a claim against the man. If he is deemed at fault, he may be held responsible for any property damage he caused. The victims should have a full understanding of their legal rights to get the compensation they deserve.
