Driver charged in crash that injured 13-year-old

There should be no doubt that a combination of alcohol and road rage can lead to an extremely dangerous situation for anyone in vicinity of the drunk driver. As Houston residents know, alcohol often leads to reckless driving, including speeding and a lack of awareness regarding other cars on the roadway.

On June 26, a drunk driving accident at 27900 FM 2100 in Harris County left a 13-year-old girl with serious injuries. The person allegedly responsible for the crash, a 29-year-old Cleveland man, was speeding in excess of 30 miles per hour above the speed limit when his 1998 Saturn collided with a stopped Ford Mustang waiting to make a turn. The girl was rushed to the hospital with a crushed pelvis, two broken legs and a broken back.

The man had reportedly flipped off another driver as he passed and headed towards the intersection with the stopped Mustang. Officers responding to the scene determined that the man had the scent of alcohol about him, and he failed several field sobriety tests. Further tests revealed the man's blood-alcohol content to be at 0.09 percent.

Rear-end collisions can be exceptionally dangerous for passengers in stopped cars, especially if the other vehicle is traveling at a high speed. The other passengers in the stopped car were also treated for injuries. These types of injuries can lead to lost wages and high medical bills. Victims of such a crash often turn to personal injury attorneys for assistance in filing a claim against the drunk or otherwise negligent driver. Understanding the many legal considerations involved in cases like these is often the first step in receiving fair compensation for losses and damage.
