Everyone who reads our blog knows that drunk driving accidents can lead to serious accidents. A recent report from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the car service Uber has noted that the use of the Uber app has led to a decrease in those accidents. Our Texas readers might find this report rather interesting.
In Lubbock, Texas, for example, Uber users are primarily Texas Tech students. These students say that the Uber service is a better option than Safe Ride buses. It is believed that the number of drunk driving crashes in the area has been reduced because of this service.
In California, the number of alcohol-related crashes per month has decreased by 6.5 percent for drivers under 30 since July of 2012. That reduction is said to be because of the convenience of the Uber app. The people who drive for Uber undergo a background check. If that comes back satisfactory, the driver can be approved to drive a personal vehicle. The driver makes money and the person using the app can make it from one destination to another without getting behind the wheel drunk.
Uber is only one of the available options that drivers have. They can call a taxi or get a sober person to drive them. In some areas, there are also bus and public transportation options available. There is no excuse for anyone to drive drunk. If you or someone you love has been injured in a drunk driving accident, you have the right to seek compensation for your injuries. Determining how to proceed is the first thing you have to do.
