Everyone knows, or should know, that consuming alcohol can impair a person's vision, coordination and judgment, making this individual more susceptible to having an accident while driving. A drunk driving accident, whether in Houston or elsewhere, can cause serious damage to the vehicles involved, as well as severe injuries or death. As a result of such a crash, victims or their loved ones may have grounds to pursue justice through a civil claim for compensation.
A 43-year-old man from Montgomery County was arrested for allegedly killing three people while driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred on July 1, 2012, on Interstate 45. According to reports, the man was driving south in his Chevrolet Malibu near The Woodlands when he made a U-turn and started driving in the wrong direction. Soon his vehicle collided with a Pontiac G6, killing two of its occupants. The passenger in the wrong-way driver's car was also killed.
The suspected drunk driver could not be arrested immediately after the crash because he also sustained serious injuries. He was sent to a hospital instead. Police arrested him on Jan. 9 and placed him in Bexar County Jail. He has been charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter.
A serious auto accident can have devastating effects on the victims and their family members. Seeking compensation may not ease the suffering they have to go through, but it may be able to help family members manage some of the financial burdens that stemming from the accident.
